One Month Old

Where is time going?  I feel like she was just born yesterday and here we are, a month later.  It's insane.  She has had a really good day so far today *knock on wood*.  I realize it's only 11:30am.  We got up this morning and she had to have a bath because she pooped all over herself.  She was smiling at me during her bath.  It was so cute.  After her bath we took some pictures of her and she didn't fuss one bit.  AND she had the hiccups.  Which usually make her freak out.  Today's a good day!  I bought these stickers you stick on a onesie each month and take pictures.  It sounds silly but they are so cute!  I bought them from www.pickysticky.com.  You can also find them on etsy.com and for some reason mine were about $5 cheaper on etsy than they were on the company's website.

Meeting the fam/Thanksgiving

What an exciting week so far!  Last Sunday P met her Great Grandma Kent!  On Monday she met my dad and his wife.  Yesterday was her first Thanksgiving, which we spent at her great, great, Uncle Tom and Aunt Loretta's house and she FINALLY met her Poppy who had been anxiously waiting to meet her.

The past few days have been rough.  P has been crying like a mad woman and nothing can soothe her but chowing down.  It has been so frustrating and we have felt so helpless.  We tried everything in the book to calm her down and make her happy but if she was awake, she was either screaming or nursing.  I decided this morning after not being able to calm her down and after both of us were crying to call her pediatrician just to rule out any illness or issue that she might be having.  They got us right in and the doctor said she looked perfect.  She is even up to 9.4lbs (clothed).  The doc told us about this stuff called colic calm which she used with her daughter.  She told us that she gave it to her baby and her baby immediately stopped crying and fell asleep.  She called another doctor and asked if it was okay because she though that she had drugged her child. ha ha.  The other doctor assured her that it was just fine and that it was made from all natural ingredients.  It just soothes whatever it is that may be bugging them so much that they just go to sleep sometimes.  She told us to try that stuff as well as trying to pump for 5 minutes before I nurse her so that she gets more hind milk than fore milk.   Once we got home we tried the Colic Calm and she stopped crying and settled down and is now swinging peacefully.  I hope that it works like that all the time.  It will make life a lot easier on everyone.

Belly and Christmas!

I don't think I ever posted my last belly picture.  I took it the day before I had P so 40.6 weeks.
My face shows exactly how I felt. haha.  Some day when I'm not lazy I will make a slideshow of all my belly pictures from 4 weeks to 41 weeks.

Dustin and I have been buying P these Rockabye Lullaby songs.  They are songs by groups like The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Elvis, Green Day, made into lullabies.  I love them and P loves them.  She will just lay there and listen to them.  Right now we are listening to the lullaby version of "One Love" by Bob Marley.

Today we decorated our second Christmas Tree.  We tried to get pictures with P but she was fussing like crazy.  It was time to eat and she didn't care one bit about the tree.

I love Shutterfly! They have awesome deals & you can get the neatest, personlized stuff for a great price!  I recently just ordered P's birth announcements from them and I was so happy with how fast I received them and how adorable they were! I am especially excited because they are doing 50 free holiday cards if you blog about them! All you have to do is go here.  We send Christmas cards out every year but have not done personalized ones since the year we got married.  This year we have a beautiful baby girl to put on the front of our cards!

A few of my favorite items from Shutterfly are:

The wall calendars. These are a great idea for Christmas presents for the proud new parents and grandparents. I think I'll make one for Dustin for his office so he can stare at his beautiful baby girl all day.

The Christmas cards are so adorable this year! And so reasonably priced!! They are printed with good quality and you can't beat them.

The Christmas tags are so unique! You know you always go to Target, Wal-Mart, or wherever and get tags to put on presents. Now you can order these from Shutterfly and personalize it! SO adorable.

I love this card and I plan on using this for my Christmas cards to send out this year! I am so excited to send these out this year!

3 weeks old

Where is time going?  I can't believe it has been 3 weeks already.  P is growing like a weed and eating 24/7.  She needs to fatten up a bit, she just seems to be growing in height!  Her newborn pants are still too big on her!  She is doing a lot more things than she was a few short weeks ago.  Her eyes aren't all crazy anymore and she seems to be focusing on objects and lights.  She also can hold her head up for longer periods of time!  She doesn't mind tummy time for a few minutes.  She lifts her big ol' head up and looks around.  She has been making a lot of noises lately too, not just screaming!  She smiles in her sleep and makes the most adorable faces.  We just can't get enough of her.

18 days old

Not much to report, we went out to eat today and grocery shopping.  P was a good girl and slept the entire time.  In fact, she's still sleeping.  She's going to be super hungry when she finally wakes up.

Grumpy girl

Last night we went to visit my great Uncle Tom and Aunt Loretta.  P was such a good girl the whole time.  I think my Aunt Loretta was in heaven she held her the entire time and gave her love.  It was so cute!  It was nice to see them, I haven't seen them in forever and I was excited for them to meet P.

P was up a lot last night and has been having a pretty rough day today.  Nothing can calm her down except nursing which is bad news for me considering the shape of my poor, poor nipples.  Breastfeeding is no easy task that is for sure.  I know it will get better eventually and hopefully the pain will go away.  I just keep on pushing through because I know it is what's best for P.  It is really hard though when she wants to nurse every 1.5 hours.

So today she has spent a lot of time nursing and screaming.  A little bit ago she pooped through two layers of clothes and all the way up her back.  Delicious!  We decided to give her, her first real bath.  We have been giving her sponge baths because we weren't sure with her belly button if we should or not but the doctor gave us the OK at our appointment earlier this week.  P liked the real bath a lot more than the cold ol' sponge bath.  She laid in the tub and just relaxed.  Thank goodness for the Bath Luve.  You wet it and lay it over the baby to keep them warm.  P loved it!  I'm still a little unsure on this whole bath thing.  The only kids I have bathed were big enough to sit up on their own so this is a learning experience.  I'm sure I'll get the hang of it sooner or later.

Audiologist

P had her follow up with the audiologist yesterday.  At 24 hours old she failed her hearing test in her left ear so she had to be rechecked.  I wasn't concerned because my little buddy Ryan had the same thing happen and he was fine.  With all the fluids and crap that can get in their ears while in the womb I guess it's common.

They had told me that she should be asleep for the test.  Of course, Ms. Stubborn herself was WIDE awake.  Not only was she wide awake she was sneezing, hiccuping, farting, and pooping during the test.  It was pretty amusing.  Her hearing is totally fine and she passed the test this time around so that is good.

Other than that, not much to report!

They Grow Up SO Fast...

Peyton had her two week check up today.  She will actually be two weeks tomorrow but we have another appointment with the audiologist tomorrow to have her left ear rechecked.  Our baby girl is growing so fast!  It makes me sad.  I was SUPER happy that she is back to her birth weight, actually she's a little more than she was at birth.  She was 7lbs 9.2oz today and at birth she was 7lbs 8.6oz.  This made me feel like I am doing a really good job with breastfeeding.  I know that my milk is enough for her and that is a great feeling!

In other news she has grown 1.5 inches!!!  Her head has expanded an inch too at birth it was 13" around.  Dr. Natalie said she is in the 90th percentile for her height!  Which means she's bigger than 90% of other babies her age.  She is in the 30th percentile for her weight but I'm sure that will be going up soon!  She is going to be long and scrawny like I was.

Today she wore her owl hat to her appointment and Dr. Natalie loved it.  She called everyone in to look at her. Ha ha.  What a cute girl!!

Her belly button didn't fall off completely I guess so they put some crap on it to burn it off.  It didn't hurt her, she didn't even move.  It should fall off all the way now and be normal.  It looks black right now!

She doesn't go back until her two month appointment.  That is when she gets shots.  Poor girl.  I hope she is more brave than me when it comes to needles!  Although after this pregnancy and getting poked 100 times I seem to be a lot better.

We talked to Dr. Natalie about our sleeping arrangements with P.  I have been concerned because she will not sleep unless she is with me at night.  I said I never wanted to co-sleep with my baby for a number of reasons.  First, I wanted to be able to use the angelcare monitor all the time.  Second, I was scared that one of us would roll on her.  And third, I didn't want our bed to become her permanent sleeping place.  Dustin and I need our own space.  During the day she's fine in her pack and play downstairs but she HATES the bassinet.  She will tolerate it for about 30 seconds and then she is done.  We've tried it 100 times.  She only slept in it the first couple of nights home.  Dr. Natalie encourages co-sleeping for the first couple months and said it's especially good if I am breastfeeding.  We are going to buy a co-sleeper to go in our bed so I won't be worried anymore about rolling on her.  I like having her in bed with me to be honest but I find myself checking on her 100 times a night to make sure she's ok.  She's a noisy sleeper so I usually can tell she's just fine.  Dr. Natalie said at 2 months or so we should move her into her own bed.  I will probably miss her a lot.  I hope the transition is easy on both of us.

I'm rambling.

12 days old

Last night we had p on her play mats on the floor.  She loves the one where she lays on her back.  She was checking herself out in her mirror for the longest time.  It was cute.  The tummy time mat wasn't as big of a hit but she did okay for a few minutes.  Her neck is already getting so strong!

Tonight we went for our first walk with her since bringing her home.  The dogs were more than pleased since we haven't taken them since we've been home.  Poor guys are used to going every day.  Peyton slept the entire time and the dogs peed on everything a million times.  Apparently they needed to make up for all the days we didn't take them.

I don't know why that pic is sideways.  I can't get it to upload right. UGH.

P's first outing

Yesterday we took P out for the first time (besides her doctor's appointments).  It's a lot harder to go out with a baby!  I had to plan ahead and pump a bunch of milk and make bottles and get her ready and get myself ready.  Whew.  All for a quick trip to the mall.

She loved the mall.  She stayed awake the entire time we were there!  She just looked all over.  I couldn't believe she stayed awake.  She passed out on the car ride home.

When we got home she had an explosive poop.  Dustin went to change her and then freaked out because it was all up her back and on her clothes.  I had to step in and help him out before he puked.  It was so funny.  The girl has massive poops.

Later that night we needed to go to Target to get some random crap we needed.  P was not as excited about that.  She fussed a lot while we were there and I carried her around the store.  While we were checking out she had enough and started screaming so daddy took her to the car to give her a bottle and comfort her while I paid.  When I got to the car Dustin was rocking her and talking to her.  It was so cute!

I felt like a bad mom taking her out when she is so little but I really needed to get out of the house too.  We should have saved Target for another day though because I think the mall and Target were just too much for one day!  She's such a sweet girl.

Here are some random pictures of her at the mall and the last one is of her trying on her new owl hat. haha.  Sorry the picture quality sucks.  I always use my blackberry or my crappy little camera.  I can't wait to get a new camera.

lolz at her face!

Just because she's cute...

She is so cute and funny.

New mom necessities

Being a brand new mom I realized quickly the days of long showers and straightening my hair are over.  My new routine is much faster and snuck in between feedings and diaper changes.  Here are some products I can't live without and which have helped me look semi-decent in the last week.

First off my hair is naturally curly and annoying.  One of our friends has beautiful curly hair and I asked her what she used -Moroccanoil Curl Cream.  I picked some up and it has been a lifesaver.  Throw it in - blow dry with a diffuser and you're good to go.

I've always used Mary Kay products and I love them.  The Timewise set kept my skin looking good throughout the pregnancy and I still use it twice a day.

Most important thing lately is the Timewise Age-fighting Eye Cream since I am getting little sleep.  The bags under my eyes are ridiculous.  This stuff helps!

Of course after the eye cream comes the concealer!  Again, Mary Kay.
I use Benefit's Lemon Aid Primer on my eyelids.  I like it because you can use it with eyeshadow or on its own to brighten the eye area.  Lately I use it on it's own and put foundation on top.
After applying all that stuff I use Bare Escentuals Matte Foundation!

And then bronzer!  I love bronzer and blush and I think it makes a huge difference.  I always wear it.  Right now I'm loving Mary Kay's bronzer.

And last but not least my favorite stuff ever.  Benefit's Bad Gal Lash mascara.  This stuff works wonders.

That's all I use and I'm ready to go.  It takes me about 20 minutes to get around (including a shower).  I have much better things to be doing than primping!  Like taking care of this little lady....

Her belly button fell off last night.  It was so gross!

Gross!

This is so gross but so hilarious.  Dustin caught this on video while I was in the shower yesterday.

A week old

I can't believe a week ago right now I was holding a brand new baby in my arms.  Time has gone so fast already and it terrifies me.  P is doing so well.  Breastfeeding is going well and getting easier by the day.  We no longer have to supplement with formula.  Dr. Natalie, her pediatrician said she is doing great and is back gaining weight now that my milk is in.  Thank goodness.

My body is almost back to normal.  I just have a little bit of gut left.  I thought I would be a lot bigger than I am.  I can't believe how fast I have bounced back.  I swear I was made to be a mom.

sleepy girls.

My week old baby girl.

I want time to slow down.  I want her to stay little forever.  She's so cuddly and cute.  I could hold her and stare at her all day.  I definitely am not taking for granted any time I have with her.  I cherish every single moment.  I have the perfect little family.
